Angela Nakafeero

Researcher, Uganda

Angela Nakafeero, aged 36 years is presently the Director- Research and Training with Development Alternatives Consult (DAC), Founder Member of Uganda Women’s Caucus on ICTs (UWCI), Founder Member of Pan African Peace Institute (PAPI), and Member of Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE). She holds a Masters degree in Women and Gender Studies from Makerere University.

From June 1999 to March 2001, Ms Nakafeero worked as a Programme Officer- Advocacy with Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE). This advocacy programme aimed at influencing government economic policies. As a programme officer she spearheaded the implementation of the Gender Budget Project (GBP) whose aim was to achieve gender-balanced national and district budgets. The GBP was a collaborative effort of politicians, government officials, researchers, NGOs/ CBOs and the media. While on this project, she carried out a lot of policy analysis and advocacy and was in position to influence the districts budgets where the project was undertaken. The same project is now being implemented at the sub-regional level involving five countries in the East African region.

From April 2001 to April 2003, she worked as the Coordinator of Council for the Economic Empowerment of Women of Africa Uganda Chapter (CEEWA-U). She spearheaded the development and implementation of CEEWA-U’s Medium Term Advocacy Strategy 2001-2004.
She has participated in designing various training packages on gender budgeting, gender mainstreaming into the National Agricultural Advisory Service Programme (NAADS) that is being used in the NAADS sensitization programme.

From April 2003 to date, Angela is a practicing freelance consultant on gender and development and has participated in a number of national and international initiatives and consultancies on gender mainstreaming. Among these are the Grace Research, Gender Mainstreaming Consultancy with the African Union (which included undertaking a Gender Audit, Development of a Five Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Plan and Budget,
Development of Gender Mainstreaming Tools and Guidelines), Development of Gender Budgeting Guidelines for the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Uganda, development of gender policy for NGO Forum in Uganda.

Angela is an activist and a mother of four.
