Biography: Mr. Muriuki Mureithi is an ICT specialist with a passion to help exploit the benefits of ICTs in Africa, with a career now spanning 25 years in telecommunications with Kenya Posts and Telecom (12 years) and as an independent ICT consultant for 13 years. His interestc include ICT evolution as a tool for empowerment and he continues to work with industry stakeholders to forge positive change and foster universal access and use of ICTs. One of the highlights was the appointment by UNECA to be a member of the High Level Committee that drafted the African Information Society Initiative in 1996. The focus of his consulting and research is policy, regulatory and strategy evolution of ICTs in Africa and its use among communities, individuals and corporate business. This has emanated from activities with UN agencies, African Governments, development partners, civil society, operators, and suppliers. Key projects have involved cellular operators, rural ICT development, regulatory reform, market analysis and competitive issues in markets in Eastern and Central Africa with Summit Strategies Ltd, which he founded nine years ago. Key clients include development partners, governments, operators, suppliers, and civil society. His consultancy has operated in 18 countries in Africa Mr. Mureithi has presented widely at national and international conferences on ICT issues. He has also published in international ICT journals and specialized publications. Mr. Mureithi has an Executive MBA in Strategic Management and post-graduate certificate in Telecommunications Management from Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ), USA, in addition to having taken other courses in ICT and management.
